Mathematician John Conway designed this game in 1970. Based on simple rules of life and death, the classic 2D cellular automata animates a grid of cells, displaying curious patterns and movements.
These cells are bewitching. Geeks give them affectionate names (Toad, Glider, Diehard), propose and prove conjectures around them, and of course, make animated gifs and java applets and post them online.
Here's my version of Life, in pink.
